Another “exciting” day in my world…enough with the excitement already… So, this morning I woke up to thunder…sure enough it was storming outside. Then, the text messages began. You see, today I was supposed to go with several of my journalism student to the regional journalism contest at K-State. The texts were in reference to whether or not we were still going to go to Manhattan.  Well, after looking at the weather – and communicating with Mr. Turner, it was decided that we better not chance it by driving the two lane highway to Manhattan when the weather was supposed to turn nasty.

Needless to say, when I got to school and told my students, they were upset.  Many of them were excited about the journalism contest and ALL of them were ready for a day out of school. After telling them the bad news at 6:30, I got on the phone and email and tried to figure out a way that we could still participate.  Ironically there was a contest scheduled at Emporia State for today (although it was for 3A and 4A schools and we are 5A). After talking with the K-State coordinator, the coordinator at KSPA and the Emporia State coordinator, we found a way to make it work.

I sent the carry-in contests to K-State via email this morning – so they were already taken care of. Then they allowed us to compete at the Emporia State regional (although it is still undetermined whether my students will be eligible for state consideration). So, we still got to compete, the students will still be judged and we got to enjoy a nice lunch also.

After finishing up at ESU we went to lunch at Applebee’s – it was 39 cent wing day, so guess what most everybody ordered! Today’s picture is the crew after lunch at Applebee’s.  I do want to apologize to a few of the students who didn’t get to go. In the craziness that happened this morning a few students didn’t find out we were still able to participate at ESU.  I don’t know whether they couldn’t hear the announcement or what, but with the students providing their own transportation to ESU, I didn’t realize a few students missed out until we made it to campus…just chalk it up to another crazy day in my life.

Just an update on the weather…so far we’ve had thunder and lightning, rain, sleet pellets and snow…after a 60 degree day yesterday. Gotta love Kansas!
