Busy day, parade and Dirty Kanza #154

Today was a busy day of work for the Gazette.  It started with coverage of the Flint Hills Rodeo parade in Cottonwood Falls and ended with covering the finish of the Dirty Kanza 200.

Because it was the 75th Anniversary of the Flint Hills Rodeo, there was some hub bub surrounding the parade this year, mainly the fact that the Budweiser Clydesdales were part of the festivities.  I love the setting of downtown Cottonwood Falls, with the beautiful courthouse…and it was fun to see a small town parade with all of the horses, candy, floats and fun!

Following the parade (and some back roads action to get back to Emporia, I headed to Commercial St. and the finish of the DK 200.  I have never been to any of the Dirty Kanza events before and I have to tell you, after watching the finish this year, I can’t wait to be part of more of the event next year.  I can’t wait to be there for the start next year…and actually get to see some of the race out on the gravel too! Here are a few highlights from this year’s finish (I have about 300 pics…but just picked 4 for the blog)

The winners cross the finish line.

Third place and first place share a hug.

The winners of the tandem category…and the course director.

Love all of the people cheering at the finish line!
