Running for College

Just got home for a meeting about USD 253’s first ever Running for College AVID 6K fun run/walk.  It’s going to be on May 3, 2014 in Emporia, KS and all of the money raised goes to the district’s AVID program.

AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination and it is a college readiness program.  Their mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.  You can read more about the program HERE.

Because of the college readiness aspect, the members of the planning committee are focused on the COLLEGE theme.  Our race route will actual go from College to College in Emporia (Flint Hills Technical College to Emporia State University).  We are also asking racers to come representing their favorite college colors or dressing like the college mascot.  There will even be an award for the most spirited!!! (You can count on me to be K-Stated out!)
